“All shall be well, all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” Julian of Norwich
When we lived in Waco, we would sing this at church as a benediction sometimes. I remember singing it, but not being present while singing. I was younger. I had two small children. There was a lot to come: a miscarriage, a new life overseas, two more children, another move, different roles, different jobs, times of discontentment, times of satisfaction and happiness, growth and deepening of faith, struggle, and peace. There is still a lot to come.
Through all of these moments and I know that in all to come this is true: In all and through all God is present. All shall be well. I don’t think of this saying when all seems well or is well. Usually it is when all is not right. And then in the midst of whatever is happening comes Peace. The peace that passes all understanding. With each difficult moment known, I experience a deeper knowing of God’s presence. All shall be well.
Whatever moment you are in right now, I can say truthfully to you: And all manner of things shall be well. Thanks be to God.
