I think our local pop radio station was having a U2 fest today. Everytime I got back in the car and surveyed the three station options, there was a Bono song playing on that station. The first song I heard was “In the Name of Love.” This is a song you must turn up loud and yell-sing as you are cruising down the way. You know you do it too. I was having fun, and then I started listening to the words.
Words are very powerful and can move people. I was moved. The song reminded me of Easter and of Jesus. It reminded me of Martin Luther King, Jr. It reminded me of a post I read yesterday. It reminded me of a new friend at a playgroup telling me this week of how hurtful words and lack of words can be when we fail to act in the name of Love.
In the name of love I changed my daughters diapers. In the name of love I drive five hours to spend time with my mother. In the name of love I find the pink shorts with the flowers on them in my morning grouchiness. In the name of love I choose a good attitude instead of the morning grouchiness. So little for such big love.
I am prompted to wonder what else? What is God calling me to do in the name of love? Perhaps it is to iron that clothes-mountain without dread. Maybe it is offering a hand to someone who needs it. It could be a commitment of words to be a friend with integrity. Maybe I should give that child a hug.
Lay my life down…my whole life…everything I hold dear and precious….lay it down,
in the name of Love.
What will you do today in the name of love?
