Go now…get the matches. In this quiet, in this now: Light the candles, grab the Book, kneel down. Simply begin, I tell myself.
In these times of raising children, investing in marriage, finding my way in church, it is easy to get lost in the ongoing commentaries (mine and others). They drone on and on. What am I doing wrong? Is school going ok for that child? Did they like the church service? How can I be a better wife? We should be eating more veggies! I don’t like that dress. Our furniture is ugly.
Richard Rohr says: “Much that is called thinking is simply the ego’s stating of what it prefers and likes-and resistances to what it does not like. Narcissistic reactions to the moment are not worthy of being called thinking. When your mental judgmental grid and all its commentaries are placed aside, God finally has a chance to get through to you, because your pettiness is at last out of the way. Then Truth stands revealed!”
This is for you too. What a wonderful chance to experience truth.
Go now. In this moment. To know. Give God this now. Create some sacred space. Now.
